Time to see the world!

The Stunning Monarch Butterfly Migration

Twice a year, North America witnesses what has been described as ‘one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the world’: The Monarch butterfly migration. Every autumn, Monarch butterflies from southern Canada and the United States make the annual migration south to Mexico for the winter, before making the return journey the following March. The butterflies travel in such large numbers that the whole sky can be filled with the beautiful insects and they can often transform trees and entire fields by their sheer numbers. Incredibly, no single butterfly actually makes the whole journey, with female Monarchs laying eggs during the northward migration and up to five generations of butterfly being involved in the yearly phenomena. The images below show the incredible sights of the annual Monarch migration.
