If you like to hit the beach as soon as you go on holiday then Princess Juliana International Airport on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin is your perfect destination. The airport is located so close to Maho Beach that sunbathers can almost touch the planes as they come down to land. The reason the planes have to get so close to the beach is down to the short length of the runway. At just 2,300m long, the aircrafts have to ensure they hit the runway as soon as possible in order to give them enough distance to brake safely. This means that many of the larger passenger planes fly just 10m above Maho Beach as they come down to land. The constant stream of planes means Maho may not be the most relaxing place to soak up the rays but it certainly ensures holiday makers don’t get bored!
