A Dog Wedding
Sri Lankan police put a smile on the face of dog-lovers everywhere in August 2013, when they held a mass ‘wedding’ and married a large group of sniffer dogs to each other. The ceremony saw the ‘brides’ dressed up in shawls, mittens and hats while the ‘grooms’ wore red ties, in front of a crowd of vets, medical doctors and top police officers. The newlyweds were even driven away in a decorated police jeep for their ‘honeymoons.’ The ceremony drew criticism from the country’s culture minister though, who said the wedding ‘offensively used traditional Buddhist symbols.’ The police later apologised for any offence caused and said the ceremony was designed to promote the domestic breeding of sniffer dogs.
