Knitters from across India and 13 other countries came together in Chennai, India at the end of January 2016 in an attempt to crochet the largest ever single blanket. The successful world record attempt was attempted by the Facebook group ‘Mother India’s Crochet Queens’ and produced a blanket that was over 120,000 square feet (over 11,100 square metres) in size. The blanket was made up of over 8,000 individual pieces and was three times larger than the previous world record. To put that into perspective: The blanket was big enough to cover one-and-a-half football pitches. That some serious crocheting!
